This is my personal website, which will appear as http://johnalvarez.homelinux.net:8080 in your browser. This site is mainly to host videos and to test Linux software and computer hardware, so it may be down from time to time.
I was looking for johnalvarezconsulting.com and was sent here?
If you were looking for the business website I was starting - it is gone. I am too busy for a tech business with a change in my primary occupation. I do not know who to recommend for computer services, but avoid the Geek Squad at all costs!
Too many passwords?

Would you like to only remember one password for all the websites that require them? Check out LastPass (http://lastpass.com/). Security experts I trust recommend this service and I use it. LastPass uses a master username and password to automatically log you into all your saved websites. There is a free version or a paid version with extra features ($12 per year). LastPass will work with Windows, Linux, Mac, smart phones, and more.
Android replaces iPhone (for me at least)...
I replaced my iPhone 3G with an Android phone [HTC Evo] and I have no regrets. No more Steve Jobs deciding what content I can and cannot view on my phone, being denied the ability to customize the phone [to a certain degree], and being able to install programs from somewhere other than the "App Store" (Apple gets 30% of every app sold - antitrust investigation anyone?). I'm a grown up and I can decide what I want to look at and I am personally insulted that Steve Jobs decided for me (censorship?). I don't want to look at porn on my phone, but I don't need that decided for me. I also like to customize my computers (a smart phone is a computer) - the iPhone is very restrictive and doesn't allow much "personalizing." I guess it is personalized for Steve Jobs... My HTC Evo with Android has changed all that. I have replaced all the needed apps that I had on my iPhone and I have done much more. The HTC Evo is also on Sprint, which so far kicks the crap out of AT&T service. I can talk on the phone for more than five minutes without a dropped call. Give Android and Sprint a chance - you have thirty days to change your mind and get your money back if you're not happy. Heck, AT&T will also welcome you back. Sounds fairly no risk (there may be minor fees, there always are).

Free backup software
I just started testing EASEUS Todo Backup [http://www.todo-backup.com/] and it works quite well. This is good to use for manual backups, but you will need to look elsewhere if you want automated backup. I recommend Acronis True Image if you want "set it and forget it" backup [http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/products/trueimage/] - this is what I use for my systems.
